How to download pictures from your camera using Windows Vista

Download camera pictures with VistaYou can download camera pictures either through:

  • a cord that connects your camera to your computer
  • or a SD Card (if your camera has one inside)

Camera Cord Method:

If your camera came with a CD/DVD, you should install the camera software first. Then you should use the program, that was installed from that CD/DVD, to download pictures with your camera.

Here is a video showing you how to download pictures, with a cord plugged into your computer, in a Windows Vista computer that did not come with a camera software for downloading pictures.

Things to keep in mind:

My HP camera came with a CD/DVD disk that installed software for downloading camera pictures. After I installed the software onto my computer, all I had to do was connect my camera to the computer and turn the camera on. The camera software automatically started and began the process for downloading pictures.  The program senses the connection between my computer and the camera and automatically opens up.

Some cameras do not come with a program disk.  Then you will have to use the generic camera program that comes with Windows Vista.  Windows XP & Windows 7 have there own separate picture download programs.

Alpha Computer Download Camera Pictures In VistaSo connect your camera to the computer and turn it on.  The pictures should start downloading automatically when you start the process.

If this does not happen, you can go to the Camera Wizard program located in the Control Panel.  The Control Panel is accessed through the Start button in the lower left part of the computer screen.

Please check out the video above, but remember, this video is using Microsoft Windows Vista.  Downloading pictures with Microsoft Windows XP will differ from Microsoft Windows Vista.  To learn how to download pictures with Microsoft Windows XP, check out the Help and Support section located in the Start menu.
