Understanding Your Computer Parts - Part 2
Once you enter the computer repair shop, it is as if you have entered a foreign world with their unique words and phrases. For example, if you where asked how much ram do you have or how big is your hard drive, you might begin to wonder what is going on. Yet these are key words used around computers. They are parts of a computer.
I will try to help you understand what these parts mean in plain English. You can click on the pictures and they will enlarge in another window so that you can see them in a larger view.
Computer Network Card
The network card plugs into the motherboard at the back of the computer. The cable that plugs into your computer modem for Internet access also plugs into the network card. This is an important part if you want to connect to the Internet.
You will only see the silver face of the network card at the rear of the computer. If you take the computer access cover off, you will see the network card in greater detail.
In the picture of the cooling fan above, the network card is located below the cooling fan.
Computer Power Supply
The power supply box supplies power to the computer components. If your computer will not turn on, you might have a bad power supply for example. You will notice that it also has a fan on it. This fan helps provide cooling also.
When working inside the computer, make sure you pull the power cord to the power supply box out. This will avoid damage. Cleaning the power supply box is important as you can see.
Limitations on computers - for example integrated video has more limitations than independent video cards. For example, you can't play the fancy games on an integrated card as they don't fully support the 3D needed for those types of games.
These are not all the parts that are located in a computer. There are more. I trust that this information will help you get a better understanding about some of the inner parts of your computer.
